Houston student named to national aid council
Harmony junior Dave Ghosh will be taking his advocacy to the national level this April after receiving the esteemed honor of being named on the UNICEF High School National Council. Ghosh, along with five other selected members, will govern of all UNICEF Clubs in the United States beginning in February 2017 for the 2017-2018 school year.
Ghosh attends Harmony School of Advancement where he launched a UNICEF club in 2015 to much success. He was chosen to sit on the national council after an application process and multiple interviews. He will attend the national council forum in Washington D.C. at the beginning of April.
Ghosh began Advancement’s club after attending the National Student Leadership Conference at Harvard Medical School where he saw the devastation caused by the lack of medical aid in third-world countries.
“It was almost unbearable for me to watch, and I decided that I wanted to take initiative,” Ghosh said.
Ghosh hopes to bring more communication between campus-level clubs and the national council, which will help every club perform at its fullest potential.
"When I founded my club, my biggest fear was having no one who would want to join. To my surprise, there were interested students,” he said. “Thing that I am most proud of is the fact that we all are basically one big family. The chemistry in the club is beyond belief."
